“Preparing for Your 4D Scan.”

The quality of 4D ultrasound images can vary from baby to baby and is influenced by several factors, including baby’s position, placental location, maternal body tissue, and the amount of fluid surrounding baby’s face.

One of the best ways to help enhance your scan quality is to stay well hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment.

We recommend drinking approximately 2 litres of water daily for at least 3 days before your scan. Good hydration will help increase the amount of clear fluid around your baby, which can assist in producing softer, clearer, more detailed 4D images.

Importantly, you do NOT need a full bladder for your appointment.

Adequate fluid around baby can also help reduce the likelihood of structures such as the placenta, hands, feet, or umbilical cord resting across baby’s face during imaging.

While image quality can never be guaranteed due to the natural variations of pregnancy and baby positioning on the day, following these recommendations gives the best possible opportunity to capture those beautiful little features and bonding moments.
