Our Story
Before You Were Born Imaging began with a simple idea. To create a space where families could experience the wonder of seeing their baby before birth in a calm, welcoming environment.
I’m Deb, and together with my husband Jim, our journey together began at the University of South Australia in 1988, where we both studied Medical Imaging. Coming from country backgrounds, we shared a strong passion for supporting regional communities and providing quality imaging services where they were needed most.
Over the years our careers have taken us through hospitals, specialist clinics, and rural communities across South Australia, always guided by a shared commitment to caring for people.
After becoming parents ourselves, we truly understood how magical it is to see your baby for the first time. Those tiny expressions, little stretches, and precious moments that make pregnancy feel so real.
That experience inspired us to create Before You Were Born Imaging, which we proudly opened more than 15 years ago.
Our Experience
Each bringing over 35 years of professional experience in diagnostic medical imaging, we’ve worked across a range of imaging fields including X-ray, Nuclear Medicine and Ultrasound, both in metropolitan hospitals and rural communities throughout South Australia.
My special interest has always been in Ultrasound, specialising in 3D and 4D antenatal ultrasound imaging 20 yrs ago, that grew into a passion for helping families see their baby’s features in beautiful detail. I also contributed to the training and assessment of sonographers through initiatives with the University of Adelaide and the Australian Sonographers Association.
Jim continues his long-standing commitment to regional healthcare, regularly travelling to provide imaging services to rural communities across South Australia.

Our studio is designed to be calm, welcoming and personal. A place where parents, siblings, grandparents and loved ones can share the joy of seeing and bonding with your baby together.
These moments pass quickly during pregnancy, and we feel incredibly privileged to help families capture them.
